FEMA approves $100 million for Puerto Rico disaster recovery

FEMA has approved over $100 million in funding for Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program projects in Puerto Rico. The allocation includes $65 million for public assistance to repair critical infrastructure and restore public buildings following various disasters, including Hurricanes Maria and Fiona.

Specific allocations include $20.5 million for the Puerto Rico Department of Labor to repair its headquarters and $10.6 million for the municipality of Caguas to repair the Héctor Solá Bezares coliseum court. Other funds are designated for road repairs in Cayey and facility repairs for the Iglesia Discípulos de Cristo in Toa Baja.

Additionally, more than $13 million has been allocated for mitigation projects designed to reduce future disaster risks. These include $5 million for the Puerto Rico Ports Authority to purchase backup generators for Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and $4 million for the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority to acquire emergency generators for the La Plata Lake dam water treatment plant.
