FEMA approves $100 million in disaster funding for Puerto Rico

FEMA has approved over $100 million in post-disaster funding for Puerto Rico through its Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs. The allocation aims to help communities rebuild more resilient infrastructure and protect against future disasters.

Under the Public Assistance program, $65 million has been designated for various projects across the island. Key allocations include $10.6 million for the Municipality of Caguas to repair the Héctor Solá Bezares coliseum court following Hurricane María, and $20.5 million for the Puerto Rico Department of Labor to repair its headquarters. Additionally, $4.4 million is earmarked for road repairs in Cayey following Hurricane Fiona, and $3.7 million is allocated to the Disciples of Christ Church in Toa Baja.

Furthermore, more than $13 million is being distributed through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to reduce future disaster risks. This includes $3.1 million for the Municipality of Yabucoa to construct a covered concrete open channel to improve water flow and mitigate flooding.
