FEMA St. Louis tornado recovery disaster case management $2.9 million

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded a $2.9 million grant to the City of St. Louis to continue disaster case‑management services for residents affected by the EF‑3 tornado that struck on May 16 2025. The funding, available from August 1, will support ten dedicated case managers through June 2027 and is administered by the United Way of Greater St. Louis in partnership with the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, LifeWise STL and HOPE.

Mayor Cara Spencer described the grant as a “lifeline” for the community, noting that case managers have already handled roughly 1,200 individual recovery cases with new applications arriving weekly. The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) prepared the FEMA application and will oversee the program, while SEMA director Jim Remillard emphasized the role of case managers in linking families to long‑term resources and stability.
