Female athletes from Cowichan region achieve sporting success

Several female athletes with ties to the Cowichan region are achieving significant success in their respective sports.

In lacrosse, Sada Bennefield and Elora Waardenburg secured provincial gold as members of the Victoria-Esquimalt Lacrosse Association (VELA) U22 women’s team. VELA won the championship with a 5-4 victory over the Coquitlam Adanacs. Waardenburg, a former NCAA Division II Freshman of the Year, recorded six goals and six assists during the tournament.

Water skier Madison Savory, 14, was named the 2025 Most Improved Water Ski Athlete of the Year by Water Ski & Wakeboard British Columbia. She recently earned bronze medals at the Shalom Park Canadian Open and gold in both tricks and slalom at the Western Canadian and Saskatchewan Provincial Championships. She currently holds high world rankings in the 14U category.

In baseball, Arizona Fenton has been selected for the Baseball BC Aces 14U Team BC squad. She will compete in the 14U Western Canada Championships in Manitoba this August following her season with the Duncan Dodgers.
