Female-led cultural initiatives launch in Rio de Janeiro and Goiânia

New cultural projects in Brazil are highlighting female empowerment and social activism through music and art. In Rio de Janeiro, the MulheRio do Samba project is debuting at Glorioso Cultural in the Catete neighborhood. The monthly samba circle is composed entirely of eight women who serve as singers and instrumentalists, aiming to celebrate female presence and diversity within Brazilian culture.

In Goiânia, the Bloco Não é Não group is launching a multimedia exhibition titled ‘Reinventar a revolta: alegria, altivez do feminino e corpos plurais’ at the Centro Cultural Martim Cererê. The exhibition uses photography, video, and costumes to document the group's history of using Carnival as a platform for political positioning and combating violence against women. Curated by the artist Ottair, the showcase emphasizes the creative processes and the contributions of women in the movement.
