Female-owned businesses in Reggio Emilia remain largely stable in Q2 2026

In the second quarter of 2026, female‑owned enterprises in the province of Reggio Emilia numbered 8,971, representing 19.1% of all active firms. The total changed by –0.2%, a smaller decline than the regional average of –1.2% and the national average of –1.0%.

The sector with the highest number of female firms was business services (2,093), followed by commerce (2,046), personal services (1,498), agriculture (1,168), manufacturing (979), accommodation and catering (847) and construction (315). Business services grew 3.0% (60 units) year‑on‑year, while personal services rose 2.4% and construction 1.9%. Commerce fell 3.3% (69 units), agriculture –2.7%, manufacturing –1.6% (16 units) and accommodation & catering –0.9%.

Sole proprietorships remained the most common legal form with 5,870 units (65.4% of the total), down 0.3% from the same quarter in 2025. Female‑led capital companies increased 0.9% to 1,871 units, whereas partnerships fell 2.7% to 1,056. Women held 35,579 positions across Reggio Emilia firms, with 10,822 (30.4%) in business services, 6,003 (16.9%) in commerce and 5,615 (15.8%) in manufacturing. Female artisan firms numbered 2,335, accounting for 26% of the artisan sector.
