Female referees to make history in Brasileirão Série A

The 23rd round of the Brasileirão Série A will mark a historic milestone for female officiating in Brazilian football. For the first time, three women have been appointed as head referees for matches within the same round.

Charly Wendy Straub Deretti will make her debut as a head referee in the men's top division on Saturday, officiating the match between São Paulo and Coritiba. Deretti, who was named the best VAR official in the Brasileirão Feminino in 2025, has previously served as a VAR official in the men's Série A.

On Sunday, Daiane Muniz will serve as the head referee for the match between Chapecoense and Bahia. This will be her first opportunity to act as the central referee in the competition, following six appearances in Série A matches earlier in 2026.

Edina Alves Batista will conclude the historic round on Monday, officiating the match between Internacional and Remo. Alves has already served as a head referee for two matches in the competition this season.

In addition to the three head referees, four women—Elizabete Gomes, Jenifer Alves de Freitas, Helen Araujo, and Lilian da Silva Fernandes Bruno—will serve as VAR assistants during the round.
