Femi Falana Calls for Probe into Mary Habila Death in Nigeria

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana SAN urged the Nigerian federal government and the Inspector‑General of Police to take over the investigation of Mary Habila, a domestic worker for Minister of Works Dave Umahi. Habila was found dead and unclad on 27 June 2026 at the minister’s country home in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Falana demanded a swift autopsy, criticized the police for delaying the procedure and rejecting the father’s request to release the body for burial, and called for a transparent probe into what he described as politically motivated killings. Minister Umahi denied foul play, citing a pre‑existing medical condition and stating the incident had been reported to police.
