Femi Fani-Kayode assumes duties as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa

Ambassador Femi Fani-Kayode has formally assumed his diplomatic duties as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa. On October 30, 2026, Fani-Kayode presented copies of his Letters of Credence to the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in Pretoria.

During the presentation, Fani-Kayode was received by Clayson Monyela, the Deputy Director-General for Public Diplomacy and Acting Chief of State Protocol. He also held introductory meetings with Ambassador Seboga, a Deputy Director-General at DIRCO, to begin engagements with senior South African government officials.

The presentation of copies serves as a preliminary diplomatic procedure. A formal ceremonial presentation of the original credentials to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to occur in the coming days. As High Commissioner, Fani-Kayode is tasked with representing Nigerian interests, strengthening bilateral relations, and promoting economic partnerships, trade, and investment between the two nations.
