Femi Kuti criticizes Nigerian institutional corruption

Musician Femi Kuti has criticized the state of Nigerian institutions, arguing that systemic corruption and a lack of political accountability are the nation's primary crises. Speaking on the ‘Good News Naija’ podcast, Kuti suggested that the country's issues stem from weak institutions rather than any single leader, specifically questioning why the judiciary allowed President Bola Tinubu to contest the 2023 election despite various allegations.

Kuti highlighted a perceived lack of integrity within the political class, noting how officials accused of corruption often transition between different administrations. He cited the history of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), noting that under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the agency even arrested the president's own daughter. He also pointed to Nuhu Ribadu, the former EFCC chairman who left his post under pressure, who now serves in a security capacity for President Tinubu.

Kuti warned that corruption has become deeply embedded across Nigerian society, affecting everything from government administration to public infrastructure. He expressed concern that this pervasive rot undermines the faith of the younger generation in the country's future and its political systems.
