Femicide incidents in Tamaulipas ignite national outrage

Twin sisters Dinorah and Denisse García Cruz, 21, were fatally stabbed during a "rol de Control" event in the town of Control, Matamoros municipality, on 26 July. Their families say the attack was planned and point to a young woman identified as Jessica as a possible perpetrator. Authorities say the suspected attackers reside in San Benito, Texas, and are seeking cooperation from U.S. officials.

In a separate case, 13‑year‑old Dafne Quintos died while detained at a militarized academy in Tamaulipas. The death, classified as femicide, follows allegations of torture and abuse. Three suspects have been arrested, and messages allegedly sent by a girl known as "Estrellita" to Danna Yanina claim a close, almost maternal relationship with the victim.

Both cases have sparked widespread public outcry and demands for justice across Mexico, highlighting ongoing concerns about gender‑based violence in the state.
