Femicide killings in Venezuela and Bolivia push national death tolls higher

In the municipality of Juan José Mora, Venezuela, 38‑year‑old Manuel Antonio Álvarez Guevara shot his partner, 47‑year‑old Ana Maricela Quero Pérez, with a homemade firearm on 6 June, killing her instantly. Police have opened an investigation into the gender‑based murder.

In Oruro, Bolivia, Nora M.F. was brutally beaten by her husband, Pedro Roberto Ll.Q., on 4 June. After the attack the husband set fire to the scene, purchased a coffin and prepared a funeral. The victim, who left three young children, died from severe head trauma. This case is the fifth femicide recorded in Oruro, bringing the department’s total to five and the national total in Bolivia to 38.
