Fenerbahçe evaluates stadium expansion or new Maltepe construction
Fenerbahçe is considering two distinct projects to increase stadium capacity and revenue. The first option involves renovating the existing Chobani Stadium in Kadıköy to increase its capacity from approximately 48,000 to 64,000 spectators. This renovation, estimated to cost 50 million euros, includes the addition of 52 luxury boxes and is projected to generate an additional 25 million euros in annual revenue.
The second option involves constructing a brand-new stadium in the Maltepe district with a capacity of 80,000 spectators. If implemented, this would become the largest stadium in Turkey and could increase match-day revenues from ticket, season ticket, and luxury box sales by an estimated 60% to 70%.
Club President Aziz Yıldırım and the board of directors are currently evaluating both proposals. While the Maltepe option offers higher financial potential, some fans have expressed opposition on social media, arguing that moving away from Kadıköy would conflict with the club's established culture and identity.
