Fenerbahçe completes project to expand stadium capacity to 64,000
Fenerbahçe has announced the completion of a major project to expand the capacity of the Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex in Kadıköy. The project, which was a campaign promise by President Aziz Yıldırım, aims to increase the stadium's capacity to 64,000 spectators.
The renovation involves significant architectural changes, including lifting the existing roof approximately 6 meters using special jacks. The plan includes constructing new stands behind the goals, adding 52 new VIP boxes, and expanding the Maraton and Fenerium stands. The project is estimated to cost approximately 50 million Euro and is expected to increase the club's annual revenue by an estimated 25 million Euro.
Following a meeting between Aziz Yıldırım and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Dolmabahçe, the project has received the necessary support to proceed with the bureaucratic permit process. Board member Nihat Özbağı stated that matches could continue to be played at the stadium during construction, though some matches might be moved to other venues during the roof lifting phase. The construction timeline is estimated at 12 months.
