Scott McTominay to undergo heart surgery for benign arrhythmia
Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay will undergo surgery to treat a mild, benign arrhythmia. The 29-year-old Scottish international is scheduled for a pulsed field ablation (PFA) procedure to regulate his heartbeat.
McTominay expressed that he is feeling well and is not anxious about the operation, though he noted a sense of regret regarding his inability to play in upcoming high-profile matches. He is expected to miss Napoli's fixtures against Inter Milan and Arsenal in the Champions League, as well as international matches for Scotland in the Nations League.
Napoli's sporting director, Giovanni Manna, confirmed the club decided to proceed with the surgery during the upcoming international break to ensure a full recovery. The player is projected to return to action in October. The medical issue was identified through routine monitoring and follows a similar episode experienced during the World Cup.
