Fenglu Canal officially inaugurated in southwest China

The Fenglu Canal has been officially inaugurated in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southwest China. Spanning 134.2 kilometers, the canal is designed to inland Class-1 waterway standards, capable of accommodating vessels with a 5,000-ton capacity.

The project serves as a critical component of the Western Land-Sea New Corridor, connecting Hengzhou in the north to the Beibu Gulf via Qinchao and the Qinqing River. The canal features three major water-level control centers in Matao, Qishi, and Qingnian.

According to reports, the project has set four world records regarding navigation capacity, speed in ship locks, water-saving efficiency, and the size of inland water-saving locks. By integrating with existing rail and road infrastructure, the canal is expected to reduce inland navigation distances by over 560 kilometers and save an estimated 5 billion yuan in annual transportation costs.
