Fenin proposes reforms to Spanish public procurement law for health technology
The Spanish Federation of Health Technology Companies (Fenin) has presented a strategic agenda for the upcoming legislative term, calling for significant reforms to ensure the sustainability of public healthcare.
Secretary General Pablo Crespo is advocating for a modification of the Public Sector Contracts Law. The proposal suggests that at least 50 percent of adjudication criteria should be linked to quality and innovation. Crespo emphasized that high-quality technology, precise diagnostics, and effective treatments are essential for a functional public health system.
Fenin’s broader proposals include:
• Implementing an industrialization plan to achieve strategic autonomy. • Reducing VAT on health technology products. • Indexing public sector contracts to manage rising costs. • Updating hospital technological equipment through stable, long-term investment planning rather than isolated decisions.
The organization urges political parties to incorporate these measures into their electoral programs to transition health technology from a perceived expense to a strategic investment.
