FEPAL opens 36th Latin American Psychoanalysis Congress in Santiago

The 36th Latin American Psychoanalysis Congress, organized by FEPAL, has officially opened in Santiago, Chile. Held under the theme ‘Angustia, Vacío y Acto’ (Anguish, Void, and Act), the event holds special commemorative significance this year as it marks the centenary of the publication of Sigmund Freud’s fundamental text, ‘Inhibition, Symptom, and Anxiety’ (1926).

The opening ceremony featured speeches from FEPAL President Lilian Hitelman and Scientific Coordinator Renato Moraes Lucas, who emphasized the transformative role of the Latin American psychoanalytic community. The event also included a tribute to Latin American analysts who passed away in the last two years and the presentation of the 2026 FEPAL Awards, recognizing significant theoretical and clinical research in the region.
