FER students win international AI and Robotics Hackathon
A team of students from the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) secured first place at the 2026 AI and Robotics Hackathon in Munich. Organized by Siemens, the competition challenged participants to solve industrial problems provided by companies such as LEAM GmbH, GARANT Maschinen GmbH, and Siemens AG.
The winning team, consisting of Lovro Šantek, Petar Jakuš, Filip Buljan, Libor Zima, and Darko Erceg, addressed a long-standing challenge for LEAM GmbH regarding large-scale 3D printing. They developed a solution to prevent structural weaknesses caused by inconsistent line widths in industrial 3D printers used for aerospace and maritime components. The solution is intended for implementation on the Siemens Industrial Edge platform.
Separately, FER alumni Alen Žarković and Domagoj Badanjak, founders of the technology company AleDo TECH, are organizing the second Green Energy Fair in Zagreb. The event, scheduled for late October at Arena Zagreb, aims to bring together international experts and investors to discuss renewable energy, e-mobility, and the future of the Croatian power grid.
