Ferdi Zeyrek death trial: Court orders new expert report
A court in Manisa has ordered an additional expert report following objections in the trial regarding the death of Ferdi Zeyrek, the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, who died from an electric shock in his home pool.
Sixteen defendants, including six Yunusemre Municipality employees, are facing potential prison sentences of 2 to 15 years for causing death and injury through negligence. A 46-page report prepared by five academics from Dokuz Eylül University identified four defendants as primarily at fault, nine as partially at fault, and three as having no fault.
Defendants have contested the findings. H. A., a motor winding firm owner, argued that it remains unproven whether the motor involved was the one he serviced in 2022. N. B., the pool installation designer, claimed the report failed to adequately examine the submersible pump and the residual current device. The court's decision to seek further expert testimony aims to address these technical disputes.
