Ferdinand Omanyala heads Kenya's squad for 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Kenya's athletics federation named a 46‑member team to compete at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The squad includes sprint champion Ferdinand Omanyala, 800 m world‑title holder Lilian Odira, and former 1500 m world champion Timothy Cheruiyot, along with other medal prospects such as Kelvin Loti, Diana Wanza, Edwin Too and Edmund Serem. Selections were made after a three‑day national trials at the Nyayo National Stadium on 20 June 2026, which officials described as transparent and regionally inclusive.

Omanyala has also been appointed Kenya's flag‑bearer for the Games, underscoring his status as a leading figure in Kenyan athletics. The government, represented by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, pledged full support and confirmed that all athletes will undergo anti‑doping testing by the Anti‑Doping Agency of Kenya before departure. The National Olympic Committee of Kenya will manage the team's preparation and logistics for the event in Glasgow.
