Ferenc Hujber admits to performing while intoxicated

Hungarian actor Ferenc Hujber has spoken candidly about a period in his career marked by substance abuse. During an appearance on the program ‘Otthon a rabbinál’, Hujber admitted that he frequently performed while intoxicated following his graduation from drama school, including during his time at the Vígszínház and the Nemzeti Színház.

Hujber expressed regret over his past behavior, stating, “I am not proud of it. I wonder that my colleagues did not kick me off the stage. It was devastating.” He noted that the rumors regarding his past conduct were entirely accurate.

Actor Károly Gesztesi also reflected on this period, recalling that the two actors would sometimes support one another on stage while intoxicated. Gesztesi described a turning point in his own life where he realized his actions were failing his colleagues, the audience, and himself. Hujber noted that after undergoing significant personal work, he has since returned to the profession with a renewed sense of humility and respect for the craft.
