Ferenc Palánki appointed new Archbishop of Kalocsa-Kecskemét

Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Archbishop Balázs Bábel from his leadership of the Kalocsa-Kecskemét Archdiocese. Bábel, who has led the archdiocese since 1999, reached the ecclesiastical retirement age last October.

Ferenc Palánki, currently a diocesan bishop in the Debrecen-Nyíregyháza Archdiocese, has been appointed as the successor. Palánki, born in 1964, has held various roles within the church, including serving as a priest in the Vác Archdiocese, a bishop in the Eger Archdiocese, and a parish priest in several locations.

The announcement was made by the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference.
