Ferencváros: Gábor Kubatov enters race for club presidency
Gábor Kubatov has officially entered the race for the presidency of Ferencvárosi Torna Club (FTC) ahead of the club’s general assembly on October 27. Eleven candidates have submitted the required recommendations to run for the nine-member board, which will subsequently elect the club president.
Kubatov’s candidacy comes amid discussions regarding proposed government regulations in Hungary aimed at preventing conflicts of interest in sports. The proposed law would prohibit individuals holding high-ranking political offices—such as ministers, MPs, or party leaders—from leading major sports organizations with more than 500 members. While these rules could eventually impact Kubatov’s position, the legislation has not yet reached Parliament and is not expected to take effect before the upcoming election.
In support of Kubatov and the club’s independence, approximately 89 current and former FTC athletes, coaches, and legends have signed an open letter. The signatories include prominent figures from various disciplines, including football, water polo, and handball, expressing their solidarity with the club’s leadership.
