Ferencváros legends issue open letter supporting Gábor Kubatov

Legends and current athletes of Ferencvárosi Torna Club (FTC) have released an open letter supporting club president Gábor Kubatov ahead of the club’s general assembly on October 27. Signed by 89 former and current athletes, including Olympic and world champions, the letter emphasizes the importance of club independence and unity.

The support comes amid potential legislative changes in Hungary that would prohibit former or current high-ranking political figures from holding leadership positions in major sports organizations. While Kubatov has held significant roles within the Fidesz party, he resigned from those political positions in 2026. The signatories argue that Kubatov has led the club into a new era of domestic and international success, noting that his loyalty to the club precedes his political involvement.

The club also faces scrutiny regarding the ‘Fradi-város’ controversy, involving allegations of improper use of 25 billion forints in state funding, which has contributed to the upcoming reshuffle of leadership.
