Fergie Chambers extradition request sparks protests in Spain

Activists and political groups are calling on the Spanish government to reject an extradition request from the United States for James ‘Fergie’ Chambers. Chambers, an American activist and heir to the Cox Enterprises fortune, was detained in Ibiza on July 10 following an order from the U.S. administration.

The U.S. authorities have charged Chambers with money laundering, rioting, and conspiracy to riot, specifically citing a $7.5 million transfer to Tunisia. However, protesters and organizations such as the Feminist Party of Spain argue these charges are pretexts to criminalize his activism in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Demonstrations have taken place in various Spanish provinces, including Murcia, where activists gathered at the Government Delegation to demand that the Spanish judiciary and executive branch defend national sovereignty against foreign political pressure. Protesters maintain that the case represents political persecution rather than a standard criminal matter.
