Fergie Chambers faces extradition from Spain to the United States

American philanthropist and activist James Cox ‘Fergie’ Chambers was detained in Ibiza, Spain, on July 10 following an international arrest warrant issued by the United States. Chambers is currently held in a Madrid prison while the Spanish government and judiciary consider an extradition request from the Trump Administration.

U.S. authorities have accused Chambers of money laundering, public disorder, and conspiracy. The allegations involve purported money transfers to organizations in Gaza that may be linked to Hamas. However, his defense team, led by former magistrate Baltasar Garzón, argues the prosecution is politically motivated. Garzón noted that an FBI search of Chambers’ residence in Ibiza reportedly yielded no incriminating evidence.

Chambers has donated over $1 million to humanitarian projects in Gaza, including funding for a bakery, a water desalination plant, and a medical clinic in Jabalia, as well as mental health support for orphans. In response to his detention, over one hundred international figures—including Greta Thunberg, Richard Gere, and Roger Waters—have signed a manifesto urging Spain to reject the extradition, claiming Chambers is being persecuted for his humanitarian work and support for the Palestinian population.
