FERGUALT launches common front for Alto Guadiana water management

The Federation of Irrigators of the Alto Guadiana (FERGUALT) has launched a 'common front' initiative in Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, to address water management challenges in the Alto Guadiana region of Castilla-La Mancha.

President Ángel Bellón stated that the initiative aims to create a collective proposal rather than a mere protest campaign. The goal is to find solutions that balance the recovery of aquifers with the protection of legal user rights and the preservation of the economic and social life of rural municipalities. FERGUALT argues that current policies, which focus primarily on restricting user rights, have failed to resolve water issues and have negatively impacted agricultural profitability and rural population stability.

The initiative is built upon four main pillars: respect for legal user rights, aquifer recovery, territorial defense, and the demand for institutional responsibility. Moving forward, the federation plans to draft a manifesto and a package of concrete measures to present to relevant public and private administrations.
