Feridun Cemal Erkin's memoirs detail Sharif Hussein's regrets

Historical memoirs by Feridun Cemal Erkin, a former Turkish Foreign Minister, reveal details regarding Sharif Hussein, who led an uprising against the Ottoman Empire during World War I.

According to Erkin’s four-volume work, “34 Years in Foreign Affairs,” Sharif Hussein experienced significant regret following the British promises that led to his exile. Erkin recounts a meeting with Emir Abdullah bin Hussein, the future King of Jordan, who described his father’s struggles after being displaced by the Wahhabis.

Emir Abdullah reportedly shared a poignant moment where his father, while in Amman, felt deep remorse upon hearing the Izmir March, describing himself as a “rebellious servant who betrayed his benefactor.”
