Fermata Reale app launched for Lombardy transit

Nicolò Russello, an 18-year-old from Busto Arsizio, has developed ‘Fermata Reale’, a new application designed to streamline public transportation for commuters in Lombardy, Italy.

The app integrates train and bus schedules, stops, and connections into a single interface, allowing users to coordinate transfers without switching between different platforms. Currently in beta, the service covers the entire Trenord railway network and STIE line stops, encompassing over 1,000 stations. The data is pulled from official transport company schedules to ensure accuracy.

Russello developed the code using artificial intelligence to accelerate the process, balancing his work between factory shifts and evening classes. While the app currently functions via a browser with a home-screen shortcut option, the developer aims to implement real-time vehicle tracking in future updates. The project currently targets an initial goal of 500 active users and intends to expand beyond the Lombardy region.
