Health experts emphasize prevention and diet in managing obesity and diabetes

Medical specialists are highlighting the role of diet and prevention in managing chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Experts from the Fermentation and Integral Nutrition Program (PROFENI) suggest that regular consumption of fermented foods, particularly yogurt, can improve gut microbiota diversity and promote healthier metabolic profiles. This consumption is associated with a lower risk of abdominal obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular pathologies.

In Chile, representatives from Novo Nordisk have emphasized the need to treat obesity as a chronic, multifactorial disease. Addressing the high prevalence of obesity in regions like Magallanes requires strengthening prevention, combating misinformation, and improving access to treatments. Challenges such as geographic distance, climate, and limited access to healthy food options are critical factors in designing effective regional health strategies.
