Fermo and Ascoli manufacturing districts face skilled labor shortage

Manufacturing districts in Fermo and Ascoli are facing a critical shortage of skilled workers, despite available job opportunities. According to the Excelsior bulletin from Unioncamere and the Ministry of Labour, approximately 44.1% of requested roles in Italy are difficult to fill due to a lack of suitable candidates or inadequate skills.

The shortage is particularly acute in technical professions, including specialized workers, maintenance staff, model makers, production technicians, and machinery operators. In the Fermo and Piceno regions, these roles are essential to the local manufacturing structure. While demand remains stable in the service sector, there is increasing tension in industries such as mechanical production, logistics, and specialized processing.

In the footwear sector, companies are seeking a combination of traditional artisanal experience and modern digital skills, such as CAD modeling and quality control. The rapid evolution of production technologies is currently outpacing the capacity of training programs to supply qualified personnel.
