Fermo-Macerata footwear district seeks European PGI status

The Fermo-Macerata footwear district is seeking European recognition through the new Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) system designed for artisanal and industrial products. During a meeting in Ancona, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso discussed the district's application, which is currently in an advanced stage of examination.

This initiative represents the first PGI non-agricultural candidacy in the Marche region. The goal is to strengthen the link between manufacturing production and the specific territories where these crafts developed, providing enhanced protection for regional quality and heritage.
