Fermo Marche school transport issues cause student delays
The transition to a short school week in high schools within the Fermo region of Italy is causing significant disruption for students and families. Key issues include long wait times for afternoon returns and overcrowding on buses due to school schedules not being synchronized with public transport.
Local officials from the Democratic Party have criticized the lack of coordination, noting that some students in areas like Amandola are waiting until approximately 20:00 to return home. They argue this impacts students' rights to study, sports, and social life, while families continue to pay high annual transit subscriptions.
Adolfo Virgili, president of the transport company Trasfer, acknowledged the difficulties but denied claims of poor planning. He stated that the company had previously highlighted the need for uniform dismissal times to manage limited resources and personnel. Virgili also alleged that some school principals failed to honor commitments made during planning meetings to coordinate schedules.
