Fernanda Alonso promotes active aging policies in General Pico
Fernanda Alonso, the mayor of General Pico, presented public policies focused on active aging during the XIX Argentine Mental Health Congress. Speaking at the session titled ‘Subjectivities and Aging: Contemporary Transformations’, Alonso addressed the demographic challenges facing the city, where 18% of the population is over the age of 60.
Alonso advocated for the concept of ‘buen vivir’ (well-living), which she defines as a city providing quality public services, recreational spaces, culture, and sports to foster community and strengthen social bonds. She emphasized that municipal planning must support every life stage, from birth through old age, ensuring that seniors have opportunities for participation and social encounter.
The mayor highlighted the importance of integrating these needs into local planning through the ‘Agenda 6360’ and the ‘CreCer’ model, which aims to promote public innovation and community care.
