Fernanda Castellani proposes suicide prevention laws in Santa Fe
Provincial Deputy Fernanda Castellani has introduced two legislative projects in the Santa Fe Legislature aimed at strengthening suicide prevention and organizing healthcare support for individuals following a crisis.
The first initiative, the “Provincial Law for Suicide Prevention, Comprehensive Care, and Post-Hospital Discharge Follow-up,” proposes a coordinated system across hospitals, primary care centers, and emergency services. It seeks to establish mandatory protocols for public health providers, including early detection, continuous staff training, and individual care plans to prevent interruptions in treatment after hospital discharge.
The second project focuses on postvention, which involves providing support to families, friends, and affected communities following a suicide. This initiative aims to facilitate access to care and strengthen social bonds while respecting the individual grieving processes of those impacted.
These proposals follow data from the 2025 Management Report of the Public Prosecutor's Office (MPA), which recorded approximately 448 suicide deaths in Santa Fe. This figure accounted for 46.5% of the 964 violent deaths documented in the report.
