Fernanda Montenegro cancels Flin 2026 appearance due to health
Brazilian actress Fernanda Montenegro, 96, has canceled her scheduled appearance at the 2026 Niterói International Literary Festival (Flin) due to acute conjunctivitis. The actress was slated to close the event on August 16 with her dramatic reading performance, "Fernanda Montenegro lê Simone de Beauvoir."
Her team stated that the medical condition "temporarily prevents the performance of readings," necessitating the cancellation to prioritize her recovery. The festival organizers and the Niterói City Hall issued statements wishing her a speedy recovery.
As a replacement, actress Fernanda Torres has been confirmed for the event. Torres is expected to perform a reading from the first chapter of her 2017 novel, "A Glória e Seu Cortejo de Horrores." The festival, which runs from August 13 to 16, celebrates the legacy of Lélia Gonzalez.
