Flávio Bolsonaro reaches settlement over deepfake videos
Influencer Roger Prado da Fonseca has reached a legal settlement with Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro after admitting to publishing three deepfake videos intended to damage the politician's reputation.
The artificial content falsely associated the senator with Adolf Hitler, alleged involvement in INSS pension fraud, and various corruption schemes. One video used AI to superimpose Hitler's face onto the senator, while others used manipulated audio to depict him admitting to theft and misuse of office.
Under the terms of the agreement, Fonseca must issue a formal retraction across all his Instagram profiles within three days and pay five minimum wages, to be settled in 12 installments. The senator's legal team had previously filed a criminal complaint for aggravated defamation.
