Buriram to host 2027 MotoGP season opener under new technical regulations

The Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, will stage the opening round of the 2027 FIM MotoGP World Championship from 5‑7 March. This will be the third consecutive year the Thai Grand Prix opens the season and the first race contested under the new 2027‑2031 technical regulations, marking the start of a new technical era for the premier class.

The event follows record‑breaking crowds in 2025 and 2026, with 228,228 spectators attending the 2026 opener. MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said the partnership with Thailand “demonstrates the passion of the fans and makes Buriram the perfect venue to launch the new era.” The new regulations introduce reduced engine capacity, revised aerodynamics and other changes that will be seen in race conditions for the first time.

Teams will debut their 2027 machines at the Thai Grand Prix, providing the first competitive test of the new specifications before the rest of the calendar is confirmed.
