Fernando Alonso Considers Alpine Move and Possible Le Mans Return

Former two‑time champion Fernando Alonso faces uncertainty at Aston Martin after a difficult start to the 2026 Formula 1 season, with the team languishing near the back of the grid. Former team boss Claire Williams said she is not surprised that Alonso is weighing options, adding that a switch to Alpine “could be” on the table.

Alonso told fans in Barcelona that he is tempted by a future return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, especially if he could share a car with current champion Max Verstappen. He recalled his back‑to‑back Le Mans victories with Toyota in 2018 and 2019 and said the “triple crown” – winning in F1, endurance racing and the Dakar rally – still appeals to him. While he rules out a comeback in IndyCar, he expressed interest in tackling the Dakar rally and said any Hypercar project would need to be “very attractive.”

Currently, Alonso sits 18th in the drivers’ standings with a single point, while teammate Lance Stroll is 22nd with none, underscoring the pressure on the Spanish driver to decide his next steps.
