Fernando Alonso critiques F1 regulations and eyes Le Mans return

Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso has expressed concerns regarding the proposed 2027 technical regulations. During an FIA press conference, Alonso suggested that the new power unit and battery recharging rules might negatively impact driver engagement. He noted that the requirement to recharge batteries in high-speed corners and at the end of straights could work against a driver's ability to push the car to its limits.

Regarding his professional future, Alonso has not provided a definitive timeline for his departure from Formula 1. However, reports indicate he is considering a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027. This potential move is facilitated by the new F1 calendar, which avoids scheduling conflicts with the Le Mans race. Alonso, a two-time winner at Le Mans, may potentially compete using the Aston Martin Valkyrie.
