Fernando Alonso denies 2027 Dakar Rally rumors
Fernando Alonso has denied recent media reports suggesting he will compete in the 2027 Dakar Rally. Speaking ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, the Aston Martin driver stated that participating in both the Dakar and a Formula 1 championship would be ‘nearly impossible’ due to the physical demands and conflicting schedules.
Alonso also dismissed rumors regarding a move into GT3 racing, noting that such disciplines require significant preparation. While he has not ruled out future challenges outside of Formula 1, he emphasized that he will personally announce any new projects when the time is right.
In related team news, Aston Martin is preparing for the Singapore Grand Prix with optimism following a recent eighth-place finish in Sepang. Team leadership believes the Marina Bay street circuit, with its high number of corners and fewer long straights, may better suit the AMR26 car's characteristics. Meanwhile, Honda Racing Corporation's outgoing president, Koji Watanabe, expressed disappointment regarding the manufacturer's recent performance levels as they prepare for their 2026 partnership with Aston Martin.
