Fernando Alonso signals Barcelona Grand Prix could be his final F1 race

Spanish two‑time world champion Fernando Alonso said the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix is likely to be his last race at the Barcelona‑Catalunya circuit. The event will drop from the Formula 1 calendar in 2027, rotating with Spa‑Francorchamps and returning only in 2028, prompting Alonso to note, “Probably my last Barcelona race in Formula 1.”

Alonso, 44, is under contract with Aston Martin only until the end of the 2027 season and has not announced a formal retirement. He added that he will decide after the summer whether to continue racing, given the team’s lack of competitiveness – he has scored just one point this season and sits 18th of 22 drivers. The veteran reflected on his career, citing two championships (2005, 2006), 32 Grand Prix wins and his last victory at Barcelona in 2013.
