Fernando Alonso may run his final Barcelona Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso, the 44‑year‑old two‑time Formula 1 world champion racing for Aston Martin, said the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix could be his last appearance at the Circuit de Barcelona‑Catalunya. He explained that the track will leave the permanent F1 calendar from next season, moving to a rotating schedule with returns only in 2028, 2030 and 2032. "It will be a special weekend. Probably my last race in Barcelona in Formula 1," Alonso said, adding he does not expect to be competitive in qualifying but hopes to enjoy the race.

Alonso also noted the team's struggles this season, starting from the back of the grid and acknowledging the car’s lack of pace. He suggested that every race this year could be a possible final outing, citing previous races in Australia, China and Monaco where he felt similarly. His contract with Aston Martin expires at the end of the season, and he will decide after the summer break whether to continue racing.

The comment comes as the Barcelona venue will not host a Grand Prix next year, part of a new rotation that also includes Spa‑Francorchamps, altering the traditional Spanish GP schedule.
