Fernando Alonso proposed for IndyCar Barcelona guest appearance

Fernando Alonso has emerged as a leading candidate for a guest driver appearance at the 2027 IndyCar race in Barcelona, Spain.

According to reports, Penske Entertainment is considering relaxing the standard 25-car entry limit for the Barcelona event to allow for a local guest driver. IndyCar President Doug Bolles has confirmed that while the series plans to maintain a 25-car field for most races next year, the possibility of guest entries is being discussed internally for the July 2027 event.

Five-time IndyCar champion Alex Palou has formally recommended Alonso for the role, noting his previous experience in the Indianapolis 500 makes him an ideal candidate. Alonso has previously expressed support for hosting IndyCar races at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
