Fernando Alonso proposes F1 regulation changes to improve driving
Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso has proposed technical changes to the sport's engine regulations to improve the driving experience. Alonso argues that current hybrid management requirements prioritize energy administration over pure racing skill, suggesting that drivers spend too much time managing battery levels rather than attacking corners.
His proposal involves adjusting the power distribution between combustion and electric components. While the FIA has already announced a gradual shift toward more combustion power for 2027 and 2028, Alonso suggests further modifications, such as reducing maximum battery power to allow for longer usage periods. He believes these changes would make the cars feel more like traditional racing machines.
The driver's stance comes amid discussions regarding his future in the sport, with current regulations being a primary factor in his decision. Additionally, the proposal follows recent tension regarding engine reliability, specifically following a race in Baku where Honda denied responsibility for a power unit failure that impacted Alonso's performance.
