Fernando Alonso says Aston Martin upgrades are only the first step, not a fix

Fernando Alonso told the media ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix that the aerodynamic and weight‑reduction package Aston Martin will introduce at the Hungaroring is merely the beginning of a longer development programme. He warned that, despite the upgrade, "it will never be enough" to win races this season and that the team must continue to work day and night on the car.

Team chief track‑side officer Mike Krack confirmed the package will be the first major aero update of the year, with further power‑unit improvements from Honda planned for the Dutch Grand Prix. Krack also referenced ongoing discussions about the Formula 1 cost cap, likening the budget to a €100 supermarket spend that must be managed carefully.

Alonso highlighted the team's broader challenges – lack of downforce, power, gearbox performance and reliability issues that have left Aston Martin near the back of the grid, with only a single point earned at Monaco. He stressed the need for a clear plan, more upgrades, and momentum for next season, acknowledging that the Hungarian update alone will not bring championship contention this year.
