Fernando Alonso qualifies last as Aston Martin struggles at Catalonia GP

During Friday's free‑practice at the 2026 Catalonia Grand Prix, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso posted 19th and 21st fastest times, while teammate Lance Stroll was 20th and 22nd. Team manager Hiroshi Otsuka said the session was trouble‑free but the pace was insufficient, and the crew will work on optimizing the power‑unit setup ahead of qualifying.

Qualifying on Saturday saw both Aston Martin cars eliminated in the first sector, with Stroll finishing 21st and Alonso ending up at the very back of the grid. The result sparked harsh criticism from fans on social media, with many calling for Alonso to change teams and labeling the outfit as the worst in recent Formula 1 history.

The poor performance highlights ongoing struggles for the Aston Martin‑Honda partnership and raises questions about the competitiveness of the car for the remainder of the season.
