Fernando Alonso targets 2027 Dakar Rally return with Aston Martin
Reports indicate that Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso is planning a return to the Dakar Rally in January 2027. Following his contract extension with Aston Martin, the 45-year-old Spaniard is expected to compete using a vehicle prepared by Prodrive.
The vehicle is reportedly a T1+ prototype derived from the Dacia Sandrider, the model used by Nasser Al-Attiyah to win the most recent edition. While the car will carry Aston Martin branding, it will utilize the existing Prodrive technical structure. Alonso is expected to be co-driven by Dakar legend Marc Coma and supported by engineer Daniel Gratacós.
The timing of the rally in January allows Alonso to participate without conflicting with the Formula 1 season, which begins in March. Although official confirmation from Aston Martin or Prodrive is still pending, sources suggest that testing preparations may begin imminently. Due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, there is also speculation that the rally could potentially be relocated from Saudi Arabia to Morocco.
