Fernando Alonso says 2026 F1 cars need no driver talent

He said overtakes now occur by pressing a button to deploy battery power, describing the effect as a “yo‑yo” race where management of the hybrid system, not braking or cornering ability, determines position.

Alonso, driving for Aston Martin, finished outside the points and saw his AMR26 shut down during the formation lap, labeling the 2026 cars the worst he has driven. He warned that the upcoming race at Spa‑Francorchamps will present similar challenges, with limited deployment zones on the long straights.
